Telnet - localhost

I'm trying to connect to "localhost" with telnet but i allways obtain the following message : "connection refused".

My loopback network interface responde to ping message but i'm not able to connect with telnet.

Someone can help me.

What port are you trying to connect to? Should it be open?

i'm trying to connect on port "23".
it is declared in "etc/services"

It's probably commented out in /etc/inetd.conf.
You should consider using ssh intead anyway.
