Has anybody gotten knoppix to recognize the MIDI portion of their soundcard?

I'm deducing that since knoppix only autoconfigures the WAV portion, not the MIDI portion, that utilizing the including sequencing software (like rosegarden, playmidi) requires a hard disk install (for module/kernel changes) to get /dev/sequencer recognized. Is that right?
