extract_compressed_fs.o undefined symbols

I'trying to install a 2.4.27-ow1 (2.4.27 with openwall patches).

i've
1) Downloaded the new kernel and compiled (on a 2.4.26 knoppix hd installation)
2) Downloaded cloop-2.01 and compiled but i get errors with module dependencies for only extract_compressed_fs.o. From the command

depmod -e -F /usr/src/linux/System.map 2.4.27-ow1 extract_compressed_fs.o

i get

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in extract_compressed_fs.o
depmod: open
depmod: read
depmod: mallloc
depmod: perror
and many more ...

You may have compiled the cloop module with an incompatible gcc version.

Check that the gcc version in "cat /proc/version" is the same as "ls -l /usr/bin/gcc".
