X11 trouble
Hi,
I have just downloaded the Knoppix 3.6 image. When I boot from the CD, I detects all my hardware but just before starting the X-server, my monitor goes off. It is not hung since i can hear the welcome message.
I am using a AMD 1150MHz - VIA Chipset, ViewSonic Monitor
Can somebody help?

Read this cheatcodes document:
http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes
Use cheatcode or combination of cheatcodes to boot.
Cheatcodes you should consider is:
acpi=off
screen=1024x768
xmodule=ati|radeon|fbdev|vesa|savage|s3|nv|i810|mg a|svga|tseng **which is yours?
vga=normal
fb1280x1024 or fb1024x768 or fb800x600

Retrying with Server XFree86(vesa)
Retrying with Server XFree86(fbdev)
Error: No suitable X-Server found for your card.

Have you tried: knoppix26 xmodule=ati ?

Look at the vert/horiz refresh cheatcodes, and try one or two.
Some monitors are fixed by simply adding vsync=60.
-
thanks shah.
the funny thing is that the monitor went black after "autoconfiguring ..."
well, there is something but almost black. ..
-
shah, i meant the nob "knoppix26" just don't work at all.
the video card i have on that machine is ATI fire GL2 clone by diamond media. that could be the problem
-
Shah, i have that same chipset VIA KM266 with integrated ProSavageDDR (8D04).
The system recognize all my hardware, include my video, because load savage module it self.
But, when i dont write cheatcodes, this is the result:
Starting X11.....
Retrying with Server XFree86(vesa)
Retrying with Server XFree86(fbdev)
Error: No suitable X-Server found for your card.
And, when i try cheatcodes: knoppix vsync=60 fb1024x768 screen=1024x768 acpi=off
my monitor (IBM G74 6547 year2k) go black, then blink a square say: OUT OF SIGNAL.
I try too with knoppix26 and the cheatcodes
Please, What I can do?
