removing mandrake to install knoppix
I installed mandrake 9.1 a little while ago and I'm not too impressed. I actually prefer to run knoppix from cd over the mandrake install. I would like to try the hd install of knoppix, but don't know how to get rid of the mandrake install.
Any simple advice for a windows user/linux newbie-like the linux equivilent of format c: ?
Also-do I need to remove the boot loader too before installing knoppix to the hd?
thx

You could just delete all the mandrake partition.
You can achived this by using command : cfdisk
or
Run gui Qtparted.
Then prepare a new partition for knoppix:
250Mb - Linux swap
The rest - ext3
Then run:
su
knoppix-installer
You don't need to remove mandrake bootloader (grub) because Lilo will overwrite it.

If you are looking for a HD install, use Kanotix. It is better for HD install than Knoppix. You will be happy you did. www.kanotix.com

You don't have to 'remove' Mandrake; just HD-install Knoppix onto the same partition. Knoppix formats the partition as part of the install process so that will remove the Mnadrake for you. Knoppix bootloader will likewise overwrite the Mandrake bootloader.
