start single application

Hi,

i want my remaster to start a single, self-written application. There should be no trace of kde-menubars or anything else, just the autostarted fullscreen application (possibly without the upper window-bar).
The keywords might be: Autostart, no menubars, fullscreen. Shoud i use a non-standard windowmanager for this??
has anybody got an idea how this might get done??

Although you can do this with the default KDE, it will use more memory than you need, and be slower to load. You might be better off using Ice Window Manager, which is lighter and probably easier to configure.

I think you can change the default from KDE to ice in /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig.

Ice WM doesn't have a built-in desktop application, so there won't be any icons on the desktop.

There's a parameter in the icewm/preferences file called ShowTaskBar which you can set to get rid of the taskbar.

You can start your program by creating a file called icewm/startup and calling your program from there.

Alternatively, don't use a window manager at all and just run your app under X. Not sure exactly how you go about that.

Thanks very much for you help. I did it.
All i had to do was
1. change the line in /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconf where the DESKTOP-Variable default is set to "kde" and changed to "kiosk".

2. comment out some lines in /etc/X11/Xsession/45xsession function startkiosk
---> disable stupid sound
---> change line thats starts "mozilla"

 myapp -display :0 -geometry 1024x768
