Knoppix Live 3.6 does not start CUPS

On an Acer Aspire 1300 laptop Knoppix Live 3.6 disk from the "Planète Linux Magazine" works perfectly except that it is not starting CUPS and therefore there is no list of printers for it to use and I cannot therefore configure my HP Deskjet 960C. Also it is not finding my ADSL "Speedtouch" exterior modem.

If using as liveCD :

su
/etc/init.d/cupsys start

then in Konqueror - http://localhost:631 then select your printer after connection

To remember to start CUPS at start up, save your configuration on a floppy or, better still, a pen drive.


Is your modem a USB ADSL modem; does Tiscali connect over PPPoATM? If so, better to use Kanotix (BH9A is the latest) which can connect via the KANOTIX menu.

Kanotix works fine on an Acer 1352 laptop.
