Statup questions

Ok i have installed Knoppix which is debian and when I start it up I want it to go to the graphical Log in instead of the command line one in which I have to log in as root and enter my pass the type init 5 then log in again in the graphical login in kde. Can somebody tell me step by step how to do this from kde or somewhere. Other than that i have installed this successfully on a Compaq Presairo 1279. AMD 3d 450Mhz Processor, 64MB ram, 5 GB hd.
