locked files/ can you force them open? how?

To the list;
I find locked files in KNOPPIX and I want to open them. I am in root ( I think ) , in a shell or console and I cannot open locked files.

any ideas?

Hi,

go to a console and type

whoami

. If you are not yet root, type

sudo su

in order to become root. Verify it again by typing

whoami

.

Then, to view a file, simply do:

cat /path/to/myfile

where you replace /path/to/myfile with the name of the file you want to see.

It could be that the permissions are wrong. If that is the case, you can do

chmod 700 /path/to/myfile

in order to give root full access (and deny it to others).
