Remastering Knoppix in scratch space on a Redhat machine.
I just did my first remastered Knoppix CD on space on a Redhat 9 machine, and notice that generating the KNOPPIX file can be done from the binaries on the scratch space, generating on the ISO can be handled by the Redhat 9 distribution. The only thing that doesn't work right is trying to run a chrooted shell in /scratch/knx/source/KNOPPIX. Mounting a /proc there is easy, as it should map the same for Redhat and Debian. But /dev gets things wrong because of the differing nomenclatures. Specifically, the chrooted shell can't talk to the network, since the ethernet driver nodes don't map. So really all I need to ask is if there's a quick way to put in (and then take out) a populated dev directory in that area. All that would be needed is to mknod the right ethernet driver pointers under the right names. Anyone done this?

Sorry no I haven't but thought it might be of interest to you that the proper way to remaster is by booting directly into your remastering environment not by chrooting. This solves sooooo many problems or more specifically avoids them entirely. You can boot into your environment and do all of your work from there including recompressing the KNOPPIX file and recreating the final .iso image.
The chroot method is ok for simple remasters i.e. add/remove a few packages but for anything more it is unnecessarily difficult.

remaster fedora_type from scratch
no need to boot from cd . With knoppix_hdinstalled I tried and succeeded with no problem to make a livecd from another fedora_installed_partition. I have no merit since I just pickup the boot_part (makefile,linuxrc..)from "adios-3.10"
and build your boot to play with. the busybox and thix linuxrc is sufficiently powerful as linux_console to modify, execute all scripts you need to create a livecd squashfs compressed ...just manually step by step !!!!(this allows you to put your specialised kernel of course)
Just becareful with rc.sysinit (from jaco Greeff) there ;some standalone.pm
is needed on compile
