    Black screen during the boot

Since i update my hardware (k7s5a+gt3ti remplaced by ga-7vaxp+radeon9700) with knoppix 3.1 and 3.2, i have troubles with console viewing
Just after miniroot, the screen is black until xwindows (3.2 v30/03/2003)

so a kdx-hdinstall is impossible too, ctrl+alt+f1 returns me to the black screen

    thx ^^

    CheatCodes, RTFM!

Press F2 to enter the cheatcodes, try replacing "knoppix" with "knoppix-txt" or "fb1024x768". It *might* be that your screenmodes are incorrectly detected by the kernel.

btw, a knx-hdinstall is perfectly possible from an xterminal (eg: Konsole). It will even use graphical input then.

    my current boot command:
    knoppix xmodule=ati xvrefresh=85 screen=1600x1200

i'm going to try -txt and fb

thx ^^, after a kdx-hdinstall, where i can specify parameter boot options (like xvrefresh...)

The bootscripts Knopper added basicly edit the config files "on the fly" at boot time. They are copied over by knx-hdinstall. I'm pretty shure that XFree86Config (obviously the config file in question) is copied too.

Don't know about the non-framebuffer kernel options (knoppix-txt and fb1024x76. They *might* be added to lilo.conf or something by the scripts. I'm not sure.

Maybe somebody else will enlighten you.

ok, thx, knoppix-txt works and i can see de console again (fb1024x768 or other resolution doesn't work)

but the first line is a strange error.
    Code:
    error: only one processor found
i know than i have only one

I have the same motherboard and I get that as well, just ignore it.

Also what kind of monitor is that? I've found that LCD screens have issues with the default boot, you need to specify the framebuffer resolution. (like it says when you press F2 for help!)

my monitor is a lite-on 19", but with my old hardware, no problem.

do you know if the problem come from the motherboard or the graphic card ? (i hope the radeon 9700 support ^^)

i try all framebuffer resolution, but no effect, only knoppix-txt works.

    Code:
    knoppix-txt screen=1600x1200 fb1600x1200 xmodule=ati xvrefresh=85 lang=us keyboard=fr xkeyboard=fr
works fine, but is a bit slower (nevermind, i suppose a hdinstall will remove that)

    Is that right?

Knoppix-txt is supposed to load a kernel that doesn't use "fb" (fbdev, FrameBuffer device, that is).

i think -txt and fbx*y is stupid ^^. Just with -txt it works but there's a short graphical bug at startx, fb1600*1200 remove this bug (don't ask me why )

is there really no way to use framebuffer on my hardware ?
