    pcmcia

i have knoppix v3.6 installed. when i boot up with knoppix, my wireless card is not getting power... the card isn't installed yet, and i can't load the drivers because the device cannot be found because it is not coming on. i know i have the right drivers and stuff because i had it on redhat, the card simply isn't getting power though... any suggestions?

    eth0, wlan0

The card is powering up now, but Knoppix is seeing it as a Ethernet Controller instead of a wireless ethernet controller...

    ifconfig eth0 essid test
tries to find the host, but fails...
but shouldn't that command not work at all?

    I'm a n00b, but that just doesn't make a lot of sense...

anyone know how to get the card to be recognized as wlan0 instead of eth0?

i have the same thing happen to me, my wireless works great as eth1, why bother changing it., if you insist you could create a symlink that points to eth0 that is called wlan0...

    alright...

how did you get the eth1 to work out?
eth doesn't have SSID or any of that stuff like wlan does

i've been trying to configure it, but i cant get anything out of it...

    use iwconfig NOT ifconfig.
then it should work, does for me.
