how would i enable tulip while starting knoppix

im trying to get on the internet using knoppix, im a noob to this and i read that and now im confused. a friend told me that the problem was that it wasnt recognizing my netgear fa310tx fast ethernet adapter (ngrpci) card. please help or something im so confused.
