Running Knoppix Live Cd

i was running the live cd of Knoppix with no problems for a few minutes. After it loaded, Konquerer (Spelling?) opened up and give me a thing about what the program is. I closed it not wanting to read it and attempted to open GAIM. it opened with no problem at first then suddenly it disappeared and when i tried to open any program after nothing appeared. i made sure i was on the same desktop and stuff and couldnt figure it out. the menus work fine though.

That sounds strange. I have seen a scratched & dirty CD produce similar results.Try using the following codes at the boot prompt
knoppix testcd
It will check the CD to see if it is not corrupt.

it appears as though it only happens when i try to open something on my desktop, particularly the hard drive.
