ISO CD does not work

I downloaded the Knoppix 3.6 ISO image and burnt it as is on a CD. I then reset the boot sequence on my laptop to first check the CD drive and then the HDD. In spite of that, the machine does not boot from the CD and goes to the HDD and fires up XP.

Do I have to extract the ISO image before I burn it on the CD or am I doing something wrong?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
