Persistent home changes language back to German

After running the persistant script with home set to my memory stick device, and rebooting with "knoppix home=scan", kde comes up in German. This happens even when I include a "lang=us" code when booting. I'm running v 3.2 from date 3/30/03.

What is happening here? How do I get the language to come up as English.

After more experimentation, this seems to be a problem mainly when booting knoppix with the home-medium on a machine different from the machine on which the home was first set up.
