    Is My PC KNOPPIX Proof?

I cannot get KNOPPIX to run on my PC, I bought KNOPPIX on CD from http://www.cheeplinux.com/ . After about 1/2 an hour, during which it detected my hardware, it got as far as the splash-screen with the Penguin sitting in the middle of a CD. This screen was offset by about a 1./4 to the right, so I could not see what was on the right side of it.

I downloaded KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-12-08-EN.iso, burned it to CD & the same thing happened, even after using the nodma boot option. I tried booting the same CD from an external USB2 CD drive but after a while, I got the message: no operating system found. Is my PC KNOPPIX proof?.

    System specs:
    OS: Win. XP Pro.
    File System: NTFS
    MB: ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
    BIOS: Award
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1.6
    Ram: 256 Meg Crucial Memory
Primary HD: C80GB Western Digital Caviar SE, no partitions)
    CD Drive: DLiteon 40x12x48x Writer)
DVD Drive: JLG GSA-4160B Writer, in external USB2 enclosure)

    Ajak.

Are you saying that your screen was shifted a 1/4 of its width to the right?

Strange. I don't know but you might try experimenting with the "cheat codes"
    Check out this link http://www.knoppix.nl/3.7/knoppix-cheatcodes.txt
And see if you can get a viewable screen and then you can tell us ( copy and paste )
    the output during boot.

I don't see any cheat code command that would shift the screen, how do you copy and paste the output during boot?.

It's probably just your monitor, use the menu on your monitor to move your screen horizontally left

Did you visit the site http://www.knoppix.nl/3.7/knoppix-cheatcodes.txt? There are not specific command for "shiftiing the screen" of course, but something like that can help

    knoppix screen=800x600 vsync=60

Try knoppix vga=normal and if that doesn't work you could try any cheatcodes that
have to do with the xserver since your video output is not working correctly.

To copy and paste you just highlight the text and copy and paste, note this is easier
if you have a working mouse because you can use left and right mouse buttons.

First, just see if any of the codes will give you a useable screen.

I used the monitor menu & moved the screen to the left, now there is just a splash screen with the penguin sitting in the middle of a CD & nothing else happens.
