knoppix3.6 is only booting with "bf800x600"

hello folks,

i am from austria and this is my first time to participate in this forum..so, please forgive me my bad english.

my problem:
i booted my pc with the new 3.6 edition. all worked well..to get familiar with this operating-system, i tried some cheatcodes...for instance:"fb800x600"...

afterwards i reconigsed, that this cheatcode belongs to notebooks.but i have an 5 year old ibm desktop-pc.

the point is, i can only boot knoppix with this cheatcode..

if i dont enter this cheatcode(fb800x600), the machine starts with an black screen.(and stays with him..after a while i hear the female voice.."initiate starting sequence.......")

hmm, what i have to do to deactivate this fb800x600 settings??

or in other words..how can i make my pc to start properly without this cheatcode??

Hi, Tell us what kind of video card you have and or do "lspci -v" at a shell.
Once you know what your graphics card is you can perhaps use a
cheatcode to get it working.

its an on board sound device(allegro4 from an ibm 300gl -machine.)

if you need any further info, sorry, you have to wait..

i get to my machine tomorrow at the earliest..
