Remastering problem adding a directory to /proc
I'm trying to develop a Knoppix based live CD incorporating a few network diagnostic tools. Network Diagnostic Tool (NDT) (http://e2epi.internet2.edu/ndt/) and iPERF. To install NDT, I must first install/patch the kernel for a package called web100 (http://www.web100.org) I've been successful in patching the kernel and recompiling, however, the web100 program needs to create a directory in /proc, /proc/web100 to be exact. It uses that directory to track the TCP connections made to the server for the timing process that it needs.
After a number of tries, I'm pretty sure I'm doing the recompile and remastering correctly but that directory just isn't showing up. Could it be that at boot time the new kernel is trying to create the directory but Knoppix is in no-write mode at that time and therefore the directory isn't created?
Any suggestions for what to do?
Thanks,
Phil Reese

No - /proc isn't a normal directory in the sense that it shows something you have on HD. It's a virtual directory representing kernel internals. Entries are created by the kernel itself, with no dependency on something read-only or not.
If the entry you expect to see beyound /proc won't appear, chances are that you haven't correctly compiled in your extension into the kernel you use.
