I have knoppix dvd 4.0 running from a hard drive and it is working well. I have some questions about the following step in the boot process.

"Running feom HD, regenerate ld.so.cache and modules.dep..."

What is this step doing ? It does a lot of disk activity.

Does this have to be done on every boot ? It takes much rime to complete.

Is there a way to do it once.... permenently ?

FWIW... In my opinion... compared to 3.8 this 4.0 is a hurricane of fresh air !!!
