Bill Gates, is, and always be, money hungry, power hungry, stealing, kinaiving, and, lastly, lonely.

He probably spends 24 hours a day, just watching the stock ticker on what M$ is doing. If anything, he watches any product that sells itself, "to run with" any of his OS's, and when that product gets popular enough, he takes it, steals it, rips it off, or buys it out, and then, markets it with his own OS. ( after probably messing up the product a little, I guess to bring it "up" to M$ standards )

So, the British Rule is into the "knight-hood" mode, lately... With the thought of Mr. Bill Gates being included in this, I am less infuriated, now, of Sir Elton John being knighted ( now ). I really think Elton John "deserves" the recognition. Not because he announced he is gay, and came right out, in public with it. Not becuase he "sold out" on his song, just to "play off" Princess Diana's funeral. I think Elton John has done a lot more, in just the years of his songs, from doing songs like Pinball Wizard, for the "rock-opera" Tommy, to doing songs for a lot of Soundtracks to films; Lion King, etc...

Gates has always shown his true colors, way back at the start of his "company". During the start of both Jobs and Gates 's careers, Gates was the one who showed he would steal, he would cheat, he would sell-out his own mother, for the all-mighty dollar. Whereas, Jobs, was in it for the technology, for the thought of "just how far can we take this?" thinking. Both of these "computer" icons started the whole "personal computer" revolution, but, who is more known? ( and why? )

I think Jobs is more suited for his phelantropist work, for his "giving back" to what made him, and Gates, sorry to say, is an icon to anyone who thinks that "crime can pay". He mostly showed, back in his "upstarts", that someone can take, or steal, pieces of small things, not really having much association with each other, and be put together. That "sum" of product, can then be sold, for a good price, and lots of money be made from it. Mr. Gates has worked on this "recipe" for success, for many years, and has gotten "very" good at it, to the point, that, I dont even think the Government he works under, has any power against him ( and I think "he" even knows this ). If we were to draw anything as a conclusion, from Mr. Gates, I can only say; Mr. Bill Gates is, a modern-day, Faust. He had to have sold his soul, for power, and for money.

I dont wish to belittle, or, unjustly, "white-wash" the British Rule, but, knighting Mr. Gates, is like making the Devil ruler of Heaven and Earth. Take any "known" mobster; Al Capone, etc... Sometimes you have to find easier ways to sleep at night, a way to say; "I am a good person". You have "tons" of money, and need more ways to get rid of it. Its "dirty" money, its been gotten by, not-so-nice ways, you need a way to clean it up, and make yourself look like you are a "good" person...

If Mr. Gates is doing anything "good" with his money, its only a ploy to launder it. The money he is using, is dirty, its tainted with the blood, sweat, and tears of many, talented, people he has "screwed" over the years. This is, not to include, the many, who have shelled out tons of money for his wares, also, for many years. Not saying that Steve Jobs is a saint, but, Jobs comes a lot closer to it, than, Mr. Gates does.

How many people "really" thought, when they heard that Microsoft was going to "help" with the furthering of Linux, that, it was a "good" thing? That, maybe, M$ didn't have something "up their sleve" in doing this? That, in some way, they didnt have alterior motives in this? Or, as another example; when some M$ code was "accidently" released, that, M$ wasnt trying to get there "legal fingers" into the Linux "pie", so to speak. That this little "ploy" wasnt a way for M$ to say that some of there code was being "ripped off" and included into Linux? This "big scare" had everyone worried that if they did ANY programming for Linux, and were caught even "looking" at the proprietary M$ code, that the "future" of Linux was in jeopardy.

The whole "joke" with the M$ code fiasco, was, who really "would" want to look at it? I can only imagine all the holes, speggetti code, jumps all over the place, routines that simply waste time, back-doors, etc... that "plague" M$'s OS's...

So, Mr. Gates is going to be knighted, can will all start making our signs, now? Can we all start holding them up, proudly, at every corner of every street, in every town, city, state, province, country, on this whole planet? Can we warn, all the people of the known Universe, that a "fate-worse" has arrived? Sir Bill Gates, hmmmmm....

My sign is going to read: The End Of The World Is Near! -=- Repent Now!

I think it is time to reveal that all is well. You will not have to call him 'Sir Bill'.

Foreign nationals given honorary knighthoods do not have the right to call themselves 'Sir'.

    See:

I think this is rather a shame when it is someone who deserves it, like Bob Geldof, but quite useful when it is someone that doesn't, like Bill Gates.

So, whatever the British government thinks of him, he can still be Bill, Spawn of the Devil, to us!

    (grin) Very Good ....

Something else on the 'ol MS modus-operandi (spelling ?)

The BSD Licence, unless i'm very mistaken, has a clause which allows for code to be used and "re-licensed" by the user. Which it would seem, to allow a person to re-licence any code in such away as to nullify any previous BSD requirement. If i'm correct there, it would seem to be a silly clause as it would allow a company like MS to re-licence open-code under their own restrictive licensing structure. Effectively taking possession of it.

Am i correct, i'm not quite savvy enough in the legals department to be completely sure there. If any one knows this to be a correct interpretation, i'd appreciate the confirmation. One way or the other

Assuming so, it would appear to be a fault in BSD's licence concept. Removing that clause would force companies like MS to give due credit.

well, no offence cuddles, but you do tend to write a novel... no offence... if offence taken, you can always punch me...

oh, i just remembered this, but a friend told me... (this was when i was young about 5 or so)... that M$ didnt do too well when it first came out because of dos... dont know if its true or not...

also... the only original thing that came out of microsoft last was the task bar... the only last original idea that came out of them... they didnt compleate the new file system (the one with instant search) because they know they cant do it because no one else has done it before, the new 3D style desktop, taking away from MAC!!! GRRR!!! *turns into hulk*...

i recon there has to be come originality somewhere...

anyway... i talk a whole heap of dribble that seams to somehow wander..... what am i saying... bashes and crashes tragically away from the topic... there, that sounds more like the truth... but just a little tiny point...

now, in this little topic... none of us have said anything really bad against microsofts X-box... now, i know he is letting the windows department fall apart (or be attacked by little kids and rocks... hehehe), but with the x-box... i cant complain... smooth action etc...

ok, and now here is me little poll...

Do you like the game department of microsoft?? answer if you wish... sorry thats its a bit off topic.... but i'm just interested in what you'll say....

me answer...yes, because yes it does make some good games, and it does have the x-box...

hmmmmmm, assuming BG is a passionate type of person, as all normal people will be, to degrees. Not mistaking anger for passion though.

There was an interesting discussion/lecture on the ABC over here around Xmas, along these lines. The ABC being the national broadcaster (radio), i'm not sure if you have an equivalent over in the States. It was on the profiling of certain personality types. It mainly focused on a type called "The Solistical, narcistic" type, who, when they become socially problematic, can also go by the name of "phsycopathic".

One of the distinguishing features mentioned, was a lack of all normal passion responses. Anger yes, when thwarted, but no real sense of any other deeper feelings ... happiness, disappointment, greed, loneliness etc. All things that require a certain sense, or apprietiation of other people. As they exist externally to themselves. They seemed to operate on a level very similar to that of the classic "four year old" terror. You know what they can be like. They'll stand there, eating a bag of crisps, right in front of a person, completely calm. And one just asks "can i have one" ... to which they just calmly look at you, have another munch, and just say "no", (grin) ... it can be quite funny. But not so much when it remains in later life.

The discussion suggested that these people had a unique outlook, that lent itself to them having a tendency to gravitate to positions of "high" authority, in various social institutions... Business, government and religion.

How many times does a person ask themselves, sometimes. After some completely amazing high level "scam", or outrage, is exposed on a CEO, company board level ... how can they be so incredibly ruthless. It's as though they actually don't give a fsck about anything other than themselves, or they just have no concept ...

So, you maybe being a little bit optermistic there Ms Cuddles ... on your BG description ... assuming the above ABC profile is incorrect in BG's case. hmmmmmmmm, i wonder

Good point, especially when it's considered, that all a person needs is a copy of Borland/Inprises CBuilder IDE ... version 4 plus, and they will have a very complete set of Windows APIs' at their disposal. Not the implementation granted, but they will have the interface, by virtue of a nice set of Windows headers. And enough to do the most wonderful havack with too (grin), hyperthetically of course (grin)

hehehee ... and yes, a break is sometimes neccessary.

Assuming your referring to MS ...

m8, if Xerox haven't done it, or it isn't in BSD, or MAC hasn't invented it yet ... i doubt it. Tax heavens and subsidiaries, aka, "which way did it go enterprises" ... even they have already been thought of (grin)

    X-Box ... unknown to me ... i do know "Play Station" though, "2" i think. Total !!!

Are you sure X-Box wasn't, um, inspired from there.

Games ... well, Disney are now using Linux in their animation development, iirc. As time goes on, and Linux continues ahead, the curve will start to get steeper, as far as industry acceptance goes. As long as MS can be held in check, in the "dirty deeds" department, the skys the limit. There has been some interesting discussion on the lkml (kerneltraffic.org) concerning rt issues in Linux, during later last year too.
