Loading Programs

First of all I'd like to applaud the developers of Knoppix, I was amazed that I didn't encounter any problems while using it from the CD, the auto config got everything and after putting the CD in, after 5 mins I was surfing the net.

I have a question regarding the loading of different programs, sometimes when I start a program it starts to load but then vanishes and doesn't come back, other times it starts to load, vanishes, but then comes back a minute or so later and works fine.
Is it just a case of being patient and waiting for the program to come back? or are there problems occuring? it must be pointed out that this doesn't occur with all programs, but it does with a few, I can't remember which one's.

Maybe lack of main memory; a running KDE is quite memory hungry. I don't know for sure, but probably the file ".xsession-errors" in your home directory can tell you why the programs refused to start (if it were X programs).
