Has anybody succeeded in configuring the ACPI? It says on startup that ACPI modules are loaded but the ACPI configuration is disabled and I can't enable it.

The CPU fan in my Compaq nx7100 laptop is working almost all the time and it's very annoying (on Windows it's on only in very complicated calculations). There is no way to disable it through the BIOS.
