Trident Graphics black in black?

Hi...
My Toshiba R100 with trident works fine with trident drivers on gentoo.
Knoppix wont boot if I specify "knoppix xmodule=trident"

using vesa, I get a screen that is almost black in black, fonts are red and almost not readable.

the lspci is giving a:

000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems Cyberblade XP4m32 (rev91)

any idea what do to boot from the CD?
