Ok, so I has this problem before. In my Kanotix Bug Hunter X installation, I could only log in as root. If I tried user, then the screen would go black and KDM would just restart. My solution was to delete the user and create it again. It worked once, and then when i tried to log in again, KDM just restarted like before. Same with the other user. I can only log in as root.
