desktop problem

knoppix starts up with the normal log in screen the problem occurs when i log in it has an error message box of
error kdesktop

the process for the file protocool died unexpetedly

also the desktop items are not there

i just remembered that some programs will not start....

So you can get into the K desktop environment but some things aren't where they should be? Have you tried booting with another desktop? For example:

boot: desktop=icewm

i have tried it from the root, the taskbar on the bottom comes up now but still no desktop items...i'm going to try the other way u said tonight after work

--Could be a bad ISO; maybe try re-downloading and check md5sum. Also post more info about your hardware, RAM, etc.
