Defragmenting a FAT32 drive through Knoppix

Is it possible to defragment a Windows FAT32 drive using tools on the knoppix CD. I'm using Knoppix 3.3 2003-11-19.
You can't seem to defragment under windows, because it always crashes, and I just thought that because Knoppix doesn't access the hard drive, and runs from the CD drive it might be possible, or are my hopes seriously misplaced?

I wouldn't try to defrag a fat partition under linux, do it from windows. Here's some tips on it: http://bootdisk.com/protips.htm#failsafe
You should disconnect from internet, stop the antivirus, firewall and all processes you don't need running before defragging.

hmm, if it is NOT C:\ we are talking about.
I would say that you could copy everything from the disk to another disk, remove everything on first disk and copy back.
that should defragment it thuroughly.
atleast it should.
if it is C:\ things are NOT as easy.

I recon a Linux defragmenter for Windows would be a great idea: it's one I had about 4 years ago. Just think, you could defrag while still doing productive work in linux.

I've had to boot in safe mode in order to run defrag or scandisk on win98. That works. On my pc you press f8 during the boot process in order to get the menu which allows you to boot safe mode.
