Automatic Reboot

i have installed knoppix 3.8 for about a month. sometimes the systems reboots by itself. i have not found any reason so far.it happens when i am online, offline after one hour the system is up or after five.there is no additional software installed. only firefox is updated to 1.02.
does somebody know anything about this problem?

Do you have other OS installed on the same HD, so that you can test if this is Knoppix's problem. According to my experience, it is quite rare that s/w problem will cause reboot of the PC, most likely it is h/w problem such as over heat, please check the ventilation as well.

bad memory may also be suspected imho.

knoppix is the only OS, all ventilation works well...

is there a tool within knoppix to check the memory?

For recent versions (3.7 & 3.8.1 at least), type memtest at the boot prompt, it should boot into memtest86.
