If you should ever chose to uninstall your Linux ... the correct way to do that is, as 'root', while in your Linux, ...

]# lilo -u

That will copy the mbr backup that lilo made when it was installed, back to your mbr.

Specifically, /boot/boot.0300.

If you copy that to a floppy disk you will have a saved copy of that original mbr if you should ever need it.

Once you get your current lilo soughted, i would also copy the existing mbr to a floppy as well.

Why the 2.6.9 kernel ?, or is it just a 2.6.x thats needed.

If you have trouble making those backups just post what it is. But i figure it would be better initially to try and use what ever gui facilities your window manager may provides to do that.
