us robotics sportster external modem dials out & then i get "pppd daemon died unexpectedly-exit status 1".

It said check man ppd, which i did ,but not too helpful, said it was fatal error, essential system call failing.

I double checked my logon & ip addresses. Anyone know how to go about troubleshooting this?
