Internet Help
I need help setting up my internet connection on knoppix. I have a dsl modem, can be hooked up through usb or ethernet, whichever is easier to do with knoppix. I tried to set it up, but it says there are no ethernet cards installed. Its just a generic ethernet card, I dont even know if it has a brand name on it. Any help is appreciated.

Ethernet is much easier.
Knoppix detects most ethernet cards with no effort, particularly "generic" ones. Not enough data to tell what you problem is. You might try sudo mii-tools -r and then netcardconfig from a shell. You might watch for any errors at boot time or even do a knoppix expert boot and watch the individual steps of hardware detection as you step through the boot process. You mght sacrifice a small goat to your gods. If all else fails and you can't find any error messages to report back, swap in a different NIC (they are dirt cheap).
If your DSL modem has a built-in router, make sure it's enabled. If it does not have a build in router, do yourself a big favor and buy a very inexpensine DSL/cable router (sometimes even cheaper that the NIC, after rebate!!). YOu will be much more secure and have the basis of a local network. Without a router you will likely need to run PPPoE software to connect to your DSL ISP. (With a router the router takes care of that for you and you should be on the Internet as soon as Knoppix boots).
