Try pumping up the volumes with kmix and alsamixer. If it doesn't work, run alsaconf as root.
If it still doesn't work, post the output of lsmod and the Multimedia Audio Controller part of lspci -v
when i installed KNOPPIX or BOOT FROM CD,
i'm not hearing any sound from my speakers... i was wondering how i could fix this problem?
is it a driver problem?
the sound is intergrated to the motherboard, its a intel motherboard

But i just decided to go to 3.9 and then the sound totaly worked...
so i guess 3.8 didnt have the driver i needed...
