When i run apt-get dist-upgrade it removes my kde. Then i have to use windowmaker and i cant get kde back. Is there anyway to do dist-upgrade and keep my kde???? I'm kinda of new to apt-get and debian.

Just do apt-get upgrade it will keep KDE but hold back some packages. To find out what it will do use the -s to simulate. ie. apt-get -s upgrade
