Use of Multiple Partitions when remastering KNOPPIX

Hello,

When remastering KNOPPIX can you use another ext2 or ext3 partition to hold the assembled compressed file system and the final iso file system ready to burn to CD? Or do they have to reside on the same partition as the Hard Drive installed Knoppix?
