data is not important. so, any fix is fine.

I googled around and found a presentation by Kyle Rankin, author of "Knoppix Hacks", who goes by the nickname 'greenfly'.

Read through the presentation and find gpart which is a MBR and partition table recovery tool. The presentation has instructions on how to use gpart.

Just the mbr and not ther rest of sector zero (the partition table)? Then just replace it. You could do that with the old DOS fdisk with the command fdisk /mbr. Or you could write something more useful to the sector, like SBM.
