You should wait for those folks to respond before doing anything. They might have some insight that I do not. I would either attempt to recover the windows administrator password or if I was sure I got all my files, then I would reinstall XP home or professional.

I googled around and found a presentation by Kyle Rankin, author of "Knoppix Hacks", who goes by the nickname 'greenfly'. This presentation mentions how to change the administrator password. It is not an easy task & may be outside of your current skills & ability.
