Knoppix 3.6 Installed on Toshiba A3!

Managed to install Knoppix 3.6 on my toshiba laptop.
1.Created a 3gb ext2 partition using Partition Magic
2.Booted knoppix 3.6 and installed it on the partittion created above.
3.managed to turn on sound-although not as loud as in xp but I'll see into that later.
4.managed to make the modem work using slmodem-2.9.9epre2

Here are the problems encountered so far:
1.usb thumb drive.

I used USB view and the usb drive is recognized as a samsung mighty drive.My question is how do I mount this drive?I do not know the /dev/xxxx.Any body know how?

2.USB to serial adapter.
again seen in USB View as prolific usb to serial controller.HOw do I use it?

ln -b /dev/sttyUSB0 /dev/modem
