Freeze on start of boot (CD/Poor mans HD)

I can't boot Knoppix 3.2 from my main computer. Same CD works fine on my laptop. What happens is that after the startup screen, it loads kernel and a second file ending with .gz, then blank screen (in 1024x768@60 hz). Nothing else happens, and then CD spins down.

I have tried several cheatcodes, but not even failsafe or expert makes a difference.

My system:
epox 4g4a+ (845g/gl-chipset)
P4/2,53 ghz
512 mb ram
two barracuda V 80 hd-s in raid
sapphire ati radeon 9500 128 mb

I expect this to be a hardware problem, perhaps mainboard, can anyone confirm? I also have problems booting other linux versions, right after "booting kernel".

I had a similar problem on my PC. Setting screen = 800x600 worked for me. Might be worth a try, Jimmy.
