knoppix issues

when trying to install stuff like ftp files and general rpm stuff i get errors asking me to become root, but when i boot the knoppix system doesnt allow me to specify which user i want to choose, whether the default or root, anyone know why this might be?, and a probably easier to answer q' when using the pre-installed public file server how does one access the directories that are shared? what do i type into konqueror or mozilla?

thank you...went out and bought a few books on linux and knoppix...should help
trying to install support for my creative zen touch getting this error:

RESULT=1
any clue anyone?
