You apparently have a HD install? Look in the "Hdd Install / Debian / Apt" category and look for answers or try to post there for answers to your issues. Knoppix is intended as a Live Disk distro. It is NOT intended for HDD install, although many people do this. There are many issues that have plauged HD installs and this might be one of them. I would recommend trying something other than Knoppix for a HD install. Kanotix seems to work OK as do many other distros. Debian is a good one also, since Knoppix is derived from it and will have some of the same feel to it.
