Recover EFS encrypted directory

Hi, my brother recently had a fun experience when his XP install became corrupt. He re-installed over the old install and now can't get at his old documents folder which he'd encrypted with EFS.

I know Knoppix can be used for password recovery but can it also be used to recover EFS encrypted documents folders?
