Sorry but I don't catch what you mean. But there is still one thing to do which I do always before dist-upgrade to get system stay as stable as possbile. I change in /etc/apt/apt.cong the first line from testing to stable:Originally Posted by pau1knopp

I was having problems similar to the ones described above.
Then I discovered in Synaptic a menu option that lets me select the "stable" version of a software application as the preferred one.
This can be overridden with the force-package menu option for those packages that will let you try the testing versions without removing half of your installed programs.
