I am trying to boot Knoppix on my Compaq Presariodesktop with an HP Pavilion monitor. After the initial booting messages, the screen shows an inability to horizontally sync. I turned the monitor off in a hurry, since this can damage my monitor.

Any suggestions on how I can boot Knoppix safely?
