Modifying cheat codes after hard disk install ?

It is my understanding that if you boot from CD and then install to hard disk, your cheat codes are saved.

How does one modify the cheat codes after the initial install ? Specifically I want to (1) go to screen=1280x1024 from a lower resolution and (2) drop usb2 since this old box actually has usb 1.1.

I think you can do this in boot/grub/menu.lst .
