Problem for burn Knoppix Live CD

Hello
I've just downloaded the Knoppix CD-Live, but i can't burn into a CD-R.
I'm using nero 6.0 in a Windows 2000 server.
THe iso image is 694MB, and i'm trying to burn it into a 700MB CD-R, but the software tells me that "the space in the CD is not enough for burn this compilation". I really don't understand why...

Maybe i need to update de software or some drivers in my computer.

Any suggestions please?

Nero 6 should burn the ISO just fine. Read the Downloading FAQ (found by following the Documentation link near the top of this page) for more details, including exactly which options to take for the different flavors of Nero 6. Please post back when you resolve it or if you need more information than is covered in the Downloading FAQ (which also includes burning and booting tips).

Hi,

I've already read the FAQ (about download)... and there is no problem about the md5 checksum and the hash.. the numbers are the same.

I tried again to burn the iso image, but i got the same result (please insert another media with the enough space for this compilation).

I'ts so weird, 'cause the Nero, recognizes the blank CD (703 MB).. but when i want to burn the iso...(694MB), i got that message.

Maybe i should try another software for burning?

It certainly is strange, as we've never had a valid report of Nero doing this before. If you have other burning software that will do an ISO (or want to download something) then it would be worth a try. As an alternative you might try a different brand of CD media if you have more than one brand (although that hardly seems likely to be the problem there has to be something wrong; I'm just grasping at straws.). Are you using the full normal Nero 6 or Nero Express of some other utility limited version? Can you give the steps you take (where in the menu you make a selection, for example) to burn the ISO? I really would like to resolve this and feel there must be an answer, but figuring it out remotely is going to be tricky. Have you burnt other ISO files with Nero OK, or is this your first time to try to burn a CD from an ISO?

Please report back any progress that you make.

Hi Harry,

Well, i was using Nero 6.0 (full edition), and sure i tried two differents brands.... but i got the same message..... and it wasn't the first time i use the Nero... i usually burn CD's or ISO (I've burned the Knoppix STD also)...

So i got another software from Internet.. and it just did it..! without any "message"... and the Knoppix works..!!! and rocks..!!! he he he

Thanks for the update, but it is very confusing. If you did the md5 check and got a good result, as you stated, then I don't see how getting another copy made any difference. Do you have any insight on what is different from the 2 copies you have? Did you keep the problem copy? I really would like to understand what the problem is. If someone else posts that they confirmed that the ISO is good with the md5 test and they also get a message that the ISO will not fit, we are at a loss for what to tell them. There is simply no way that a bad download can accidentially have the same md5 sum, and you even stated that the ISO was the proper size and several megs smaller than the CD capacity.

Perhaps another question I should ask is what tool did you use to confirm the md5 test and can you give us details of how you did the test. Something is wrong somewhere, and it can be understood if we have enough details about what you are doing.

Well. i've downloaded the Knoppix Iso from Bittorrent (i use Bit Comet client), i have Nero 6.0 ful editon like a burner..and like i told u before when i tried to burn the ISO i got the message "the media has not enough space for this compilation".

After you told me that i should read the FAQ's.. i found out that i should check the MD5 numbers.. i downloaded the "Hash Calc", and the numbers were good..

I tried again to burn the ISO with the Nero but i had the same message. Even if the CD was 700 MB and the iso was 694 MB.. i can presume that it was a bad configuration of my computer or the Nero maybe...

So i get another software (for burning the same ISO), and with that sofware i didn't get any message on screen and finally i could have my copy of Knoppix...and surely it works without problems...

I couldn't reply before... sorry about that..

Thanks for making that clear, it had at first sounded to me that you downloaded another copy of Knoppix, not different burning software. I would have expected that if you were following the detailed instructions for Nero laid out in the Downloading faq that it would burn properly, but of course you are correct you could have a bad copy of Nero. I would want to check that out, as Nero is my prefered burning software for most things on a MS platform, but I'm glad that you were able to get a good burn and that you didn't have to download the ISO a second time. If you ever do determine what the Nero issue is/was, please let us know, as it is a very strange problem that other Nero users have not reported.
