How is your std modem connected to your PC? Over serial cable? If yes, than this is external, seral modem and can work without drivers. If not, I don't know, none experience with wireless modems.

How is your std modem connected to your PC? Over serial cable?

Ya its connected to PC by a serial cable.
What I meant by wireless is that in places where phone cables are absent the phone companies provide a wireless connection Its similar to a mobile phone, the equipment is kyocera 2235 set.
It can be connected to the pc by a cable, it works as a std 33600bps modem under any windows versions. And my question is can it be configured under Linux ie Knoppix 4
