Has my apt-get been hacked?

Whenever I do an apt-get install on any application (that is on the package list), I get the following threatening messages on the last line:

WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed
This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
  e2fsprogs sysvinit

and

You are about to do something potentially harmful
To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'
 ?]

Also on attempting to install any application it wants to remove knx-installer and knoppix-terminalserver among other utilities.

Has my apt-get been hacked? If so any solutions?

Hi,

I got the same message but after changing the /etc/apt/sources.list file from testing to unstable sources. You can check if that is the case with your file too. I think when you do apt-get upgrade from unstable tree it always ask this question but I'm not shure. Maybe someone with more experience with apt tool can answare your question.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate it Commenting out all repositories except stable in the sources.list file certainly helped. Before this it was asking to download/remove lots of dependencies for simple application installs and in the end wasn't letting me install anything too. It was being a hell.
