When I try booting Knoppix 3.2 it freezes after writing something about "mounting /dev/scd0". Could it be because my CD rom drive is rather old? Or is there a boot option that fixes/works around the problem?

I'm quite new to Linux, so please give detailed explainations if the solution is complex.
