BLack Screen after boot

after the Knoppix checks everything the screen goes black , i dont know if this is a display issue or what.

its an old old compuer a Compaq presario form 98, i just put 512 of mem in it and its procesor ir a celiron pII
i need help.

Knoppix is doing its best autodetecting the PC's hardware and in many cases it gets it right. In this case I think it is setting the video resolution & refresh rates beyond the capabilities of the monitor.

Knoppix boots with a splash screen. At that splash screen you can enter codes which will force Knoppix to do certan things. Theses codes are known as Cheat Codes. You should try the ones that involve the video, such as:
knoppix vga=normal
knoppix vga=normal screen=800x600 xvrefresh=60

Do you see a splash screen at all? It should look something like:

yeah i see that , knoppix vga=normal , it didnt work , should i try the refresh too?

it only goes black after it boots , and the desktop should show

ok awesome it worked, what do i do to make the reso larger 1024x860 is the screens highest the screen can go to.
