KDE Loading...

Hi people,

Let me start of with a little intro:
I'm TJ im from the Netherlands and im prettymuch a linux noob. I know quite a bit about windows. But i decided it was time to start with linux. I got the advice to start with knoppix ( doesnt matter if it was good advice or not ) and i ran it fron cd the first couple of days. Because i couldnt save settings (no floppy) i decided to put knoppix on the HDD. Everything went well. Been enjoying Knoppix from HDD for a day now.

The problem:
I must have changed some settings because when i boot now it doesnt boot the gui but the console. It doesnt load Xwindow / KDE. How would i manually invoke their starting / set loading of them to default.

Knoppix is not really designed for installation.

Try Kanotix, http://kanotix.com. This is designed for installation, and is a live-cd as well...

With all due respect:
I already noted that it isnt the best distro to install, but it worked before with kde. Maybe i change de windows manager. Ifso how can i change it back from the terminal...

Check the /etc/inittab file for this entry:

# The default runlevel.
id:5:initdefault:

Maybe your id: isn't 5 but something lower, if so, replace it with 5.
If this isn't the issue once in command line become root and type 'kdm' or 'startx'.
